Game Description & Reviews:
HolySoga's Rating System out of 5
The Graphics themselves aren't the best in the world (even as far as PS1 goes) certainly not as good as Chrono Cross or Final Fantasy IX, but it has it's good points. The characters aren't mostly pixelated, however that said there is a bit of pixelation. It is an earlier title after all. All said and done for an earlier title for PS1 the game's graphics are really nice.
I have to admit the music isn't great. It's really good as it really fits the game extremely well. In moments of tension the music fits well with the area...Silent Hill anyone? The sound effects are really well done however better than a lot of PS1 titles. This fact plus the fact that the music fitting with the scenarios brings it to 4.
Honestly it's the first Horror Survival game I actually liked playing through. It didn't feel stale and done over and over again (my second Survival Horror game I found this of was Dino Crisis, then Third was Parasite Eve). Overall the plot keeps you guessing in the game (at least it did for me). Personally I would recommend this game to anyone who likes Resident Evil or Silent Hill. Same as I would recommend Dino Crisis to them as well.
The premise behind this game is you are a young man who was set in deep freeze in a facility...according to the time index you were set to be frozen forever. If it weren't for the malfunction you'd have stayed there too. Your first tasks are to turn up the temperature and find the jacket in the other room so you don't freeze to death...then find a way to escape the hellish facility. You get two party members on the way who will be explained in the character section.
Honestly apart from the main character, the characters could have been developed a bit better...that said though the characters are really good. There are three...your main character, a little robot character that joins you for the first level...and a girl who joins you for most of the game. They are all really cool (I presonally loved the robot it was so cute).
The controls of this game are solid, fluid and unlike most horror games (coughs Resident Evil) you can actually control the camera to be Resident Evil style, 3rd person (behind the character) style, or even 1st Person (Doom Style). To make matters more interesting you can swap between your party members and if memory serves me right you can even have party members wait somewhere for you if you know it's going to be dangerous and you want to go in alone. The controls don't feel jerky at all (save maybe when firing a gun but you get used to it). The fist fighting in the game (I'm 99% sure this is in the game I remember fighting enemies with unarmed combat) is very fluid and reminds me of a better version of Grand Theft Auto's fighting system.
I enjoyed this game so much I played through it multiple times even though I knew what was going to happen. The game style has a way of not getting old even though it is repetitive.
Overall: 4.5/5 I hunted for this game ever since a year after it's release date until last year just to own a hard cover of the game. It took forever but I found it and I was so happy to find it. Honestly if you ever get a chance and see this game in the store buy it without delay...and check it out on this site and see if you like it. I personally think you will.
