Game Description & Reviews:
Bushido. The way of the warrior. Martial arts mastery, loyalty, and honor until death.
Enter Squaresoft's Bushido Blade, a 3-D fighter set in the modern era but focusing on bladed weaponry. Select a champion from a roster of six fighters, then arm your warrior with one of the eight lethal melee weapons at your disposal. Will you take the rapier for rapid and sudden strikes, knowing that the damage is low and its range short, or will you wield something with superior reach, sacrificing speed for brute strength and defense?
Choose carefully, because in Bushido Blade duels are often settled in one strike. Blows that don't kill may instead cripple, disabling a sword arm or sealing away the ability to even stand. Dance through one of three stances to counter your foe's strengths, chase (or lead) your opponent in dashes around the battlefield, or climb to higher ground to seek a tactical advantage.
Above all, refrain from dishonorable combat. Stabbing your opponent in the back, hacking at a prone combatant knocked to the ground, or blinding them with dirt or sand is not the Bushido way - and only those on the warrior's path may reach the master of the Meikyokan Dojo, whose assassins have been dispatched to silence you at all costs.
Sharpen your skills in the training mode before starting your tale, or for those at journey's end, run the gauntlet of 100 contenders in slash mode. Challenge a friend in Vs mode, watch the movies you've unlocked, or try out the first-person mode to get up close and personal to the action.
If you're looking for a close combat game on the PSX that's not like all the others, give Bushido Blade a swing.
This game is much less of a fighter, and much more of a swordfigting simulator.
Unlike other fighters, one well placed hit with your blade is enough to win you the match, some matches can be won within seconds depending on your opponent's skill level.
It sounds easy, but remember that they have swords as well. This game gets quite challenging later on when you fight the skilled "boss" characters. Stategy is the key, and you will be punished if you don't use it.
The game can become frustrating at times, and for that I take away a point, but it's a very good game that you could easily sink several hours into.
