Ah Mortal Kombat, the game where violence is the law of the land or whatever else you could think of. Anyways, Armageddon is the seventh installment of the MK series. This installment featured 62 playable characters all with their own unique fighting syle. The game has always been brutal but it ups the brutality through more stage fatalities being available. All in all, this game never bores me since it is a fun fighting game, what with the killing, and the punching and the kicking and aww you know what I'm talking about, (insert Bill Cosby sounds here). But, yes this game is fun, and I don't mean the Spongebob meaning of fun either.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is the one Mortal Kombat game where everyone can fight everyone. Yes, that's right, it's every character from every Mortal Kombat game ever. They're all updated with new looks, moves, fighting styles, weapons, and are as good as they ever have been.
Fighting is smooth. You have access to all your special moves that can be easily accessed through the pause menu, along with other, more basic moves.
A new feature is implemented into the game, called "Kreate-a-fatality", in which you input movements in order to perform a move in your own created fatality. The rank of the fatality changes depending on the number of moves you've accomplished. You can also "fail" these fatalities if you do not perform a finishing move at the end of your fatality. It is essentially a race against time to create the most brutal fatality that you possibly can, with your time slot withering away faster with each move. A low point for this game is the removal of character-specific fatalities, basically meaning that your character has about as much of a personality than the next.
Arenas are nice looking, with little bits and pieces scattered about the area. The developers paid attention to even the smallest details in the arenas, even if most of them are remakes of arenas in previous games.
Konquest Mode is featured in the game, but it's worth skipping if you don't enjoy adventure type games. You can do actual fighting within the Konquest Mode, but they only occur at certain points (usually after a painstakingly long platforming sequence) and lack the fatalities that many players look forward to at the end of battles.
Overall, the game isn't very enjoyable, but it has enough that most Mortal Kombat fans will love. All the characters are there, complete with their classic moves. Arenas are looking good as ever, but not original. Fatalities are frantic, but not the same. If you're looking for a Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is worth ignoring.
