Game Description & Reviews:
Originally released for the Amiga and Atari ST, Another World (called Out of this World in North America) follows the adventures of scientist Lester Chaykin as he accidentally zaps himself to another world whist experimenting with his particle accelerator. Help him survive in this new alien land where it seems that nearly everything is against him. Will he survive the next few screens of seemingly relentless attacks? Will he be able to find a way home?
Another World is a action platform game ported by Interplay Entertainment in 1993. It is in the same vein as Prince of Persia, though putting more emphasis on puzzles and story. While technically inferior to the Amiga, the Mega Drive port of this game manages to match the experience on the graphical level, though perhaps not quite so in the audio level. It also includes a text crawl before the introduction begins (slightly different in presentation than the SNES port), detailing a journal entry by Lester after he has been marooned on the alien world, cutting off mid-word to perhaps leave his fate in question to the player.
Another World is simply an amazing experience, from beginning to end, and should be included on the personal bucket list of every gamer. While the graphics of the game are not quite as cutting edge as they were back in 1993, the Mega Drive port is still stunning and fun to play, and is a excellent representation of the original game.
Another World is a difficult screen-scroll platformer in which the protagonist is warped into an alien world. At first he needs to survive by avoiding the worlds deadly hazards. The more screens the player survives the more capabilities he uncovers that increase his chance of survival. It is difficult and requires the player to use his head and experimentation with the environment a lot. He will die a lot and the game will let him replay entire section over and over until they can be mastered. Nevertheless Another World is credited as one of the best games ever made due to its charm, immersion & creative level design. It doesn't really matter on which platform you play the game. You will be hooked until the very end... IF you can survive the another world!
