Game Description & Reviews:
In the age of the N64/PSX war, all gamers looked for games to compare and prove the superiority of their chosen system over the competition. PSX had Wipeout, and the N64 had no alternative....until this little gem came out.
Extreme-G is a hyperspeed racing game on futuristic bikes, set on a dystopian future and various industrial environments. Everything in it exudes quality (this being the point in history when Acclaim actually released GOOD games).
The graphics are quite good, with well defined bikes, colourful and spectacular explosions and weapon effects and detailed, rollercoaster-type courses. Some may say the game is foggy, but they seem to forget that the draw distance in racing games of the time wasn't better, even on the PC. Especially considering the SPEED in which the thing runs, it's a good tradeoff in my eyes, as it helps you focus on the middle distance.
The music is perfect for this kind of game, a techno-electronic soundtrack which gets you ready to race at face-melting speed. Good stuff.
Controls are quite good. There's the usual buttons for acceleration, breaking, drifting, weapons and speedboosts, as well as the usual perspective changes. All the bases are covered on this front. The bikes may seem a bit "floaty" at the start, but only until you get used to the handling. From then on, it's smooth sailing all the way.
All in all, an excellent game for fans of the futuristic racing type. Give a try, and you won't regret it!
