How to Play this Game ?
Game Description & Reviews:
There are many games in which you play something other than a human being - be it a god, a robot, an orc or indeed, a quadruped. But it is quite rare for the main character of a game to be an insect - a bee in this case. Therein lies the brilliance and beauty of Buck Bumble.
The storyline of the game is simple: the insect world is threatened by a chemical leak that unleashes a mutant herd that seeks domination. The response of the herd's enemies is Buck Bumble - a mighty cybernetic bumblebee with the capability to use all sorts of weapons in the struggle against the enemy. Needless to say, it is the player's task to steer him through twenty-odd missions against the herd, which culminate in the one-on-one battle with its queen.
The beauty of Buck Bumble lies in the game being played from a bee's point of view. Thus, ordinary garden plots become vast worlds, with trees towering above and ponds extending below; the variety of levels adds to the mystique as one moves from the initial temperate zone to icy and underground realms in later missions.
The brilliance of Buck Bumble comes from its excellent gameplay. Argonaut Software have made their bee very easy to manoeuvre, and even U-turns and somersaults can be performed with ease, whilst a convenient radar at the top of the screen assists him in finding his foes. Furthermore, there are a number of different weapons (with varying degrees of power and reserves of ammunition) that can be found in the game - and they prove quite useful when dealing with the variety of mutant insects that one encounters. The ability to heal by consuming nectar from flowers adds another nice touch.
The music in this game is best turned off - in order to enjoy its delightful sound effects and natural ambience. If all this wasn't enough, there are also two 2-player modes - a typical death-match as well as 'buzz-ball' - a football game involving bees and weapons. Both are definitely worth trying.
Originality, action, challenge, explosive enjoyment.... Buck Bumble has it all.
