They've taken a while to come around but we finally have all 125GBs of MAME 0.141 CHDs available for you to download here! Chrono Trigger - Crimson Echoes [Final] Leaked!
Posted by MasJ @ Wed, 19 Jan 2011 | Message Boards

A few months ago we had covered Chrono Trigger - Crimson Echoes - a fanmade game that was canned by Square. Basically Crimson Echoes was a brand new Chrono Trigger game with over 35 hours of gameplay, music and story! A pretty amazing storyline (from what is shown in the trailer..) and definitely worth playing.

Well, today's good news is that the final release of Crimson Echoes was leaked and we have the IPS patch available here for you! So what're you waiting for ? Jump right into Crimson Echoes and enjoy a brand new Chrono Trigger experience!

You need to get the SNES ROM, an IPS Patching Utility and use the utility to patch the SNES ROM into Crimson Echoes. Then use an emulator to play your game! (Hint: Snes9x can also patch your ROM for you..) Pretty easy!

-> Chrono Trigger - Crimson Echoes IPS Patch
- > Lunar IPS Patching Tool (Windows)
-> UIPS Patcher (Mac OS X)
-> JIPS (Java - Windows/Linux/Mac)

Update:
Since some of you were having trouble patching the ROM - Here's a pre-patched ROM for you to play, just load up in your emulator and be on your way : )

Update 2:

Apparently the previously posted ROM had some glitches. Please download this version and it'll work perfectly (CRC verified). Also, please use ZSNES to play this game since Snes9x has some problems with it. (Tried it on ZSNES 1.43 for Mac OS X -- worked like a charm!)

-> Chrono Trigger - Crimson Echoes Final ROM

Thanks go out to Zhong for all the helpful info in the comments.

Thanks go out to Teg for the news report! Also, here's a Crimson Echoes trailer for you to check out:

Commercial Breaks - A BBC Documentary (1984)
Posted by MasJ @ Fri, 14 Jan 2011 | Message Boards

Commercial Breaks is a BBC Documentary filmed in the year 1984 when the video game industry was just trying to create a niche for itself. It follows the story of Imagine Software - a game development company that went bust. Definitely a very interesting documentary to watch for anyone who has an interest in the game industry and the early trials and hurdles that it faced.

On another unrelated note, I've also added back the Street Fighter II Animated Movies in English and Japanese to our Video Game Movies & Documentaries Section. Check it out!

Search Refinements
Posted by MasJ @ Thu, 13 Jan 2011 | Message Boards

I've made some major changes with how search works on the site. Now, if you do a search using the search field at the top (just type in something and hit enter) you'll be presented with results from all over the site. However, you can now refine your results by choosing a section and searching within it (sections are: All Sections, ROMs/ISOs/Games, Emulators, Gaming Music, TV-Shows/Movies/Videos, Comics/Magazines/Guides). So, if you're only interested in results in ROMs/ISOs/Games -- simply select that. If you want to search for Gaming Music, choose that! And so on..

Also, for searches within the ROMs/ISOs and Emulators sections you can even refine further into what system you want results for. So, for example, if you choose ROMs/ISOs/Games and Sony Playstation and search for Metal Gear Solid, you'll get exactly what you're looking for!

What's more, all these results also include our EPForums community uploads and more! Try it out!

Gathering Allies - Final Fantasy Tactics Advance [Sheet-Music]
Posted by MasJ @ Sat, 08 Jan 2011 | Message Boards

Beacon515L was nice enough to share with us a self-created arrangement of Gathering Allies from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I've added it to our sheet music section so that you can get it and start playing right away :) Here's what he says about it:

This is an arrangement of Hitoshi Sakimoto's 'Gathering Allies' from FFTA for two pianos. It is arranged for two pianos as opposed to four hands, as it does require two entirely separate instruments with a player each. Enjoy, it's a fun piece. X3

He was also nice enough to produce an actual MP3 to show you how it goes. You can listen to it here.

To grab the music and check out tons more sheet music for many games (even full soundtracks..!) head to our Sheet Music Section.

MAME Updated to 0.141 [125 new roms]
Posted by MasJ @ Fri, 07 Jan 2011 | Message Boards

As promised we've just rolled out a MAME ROMs update to bring our MAME section up to 0.141. There've been 125 new additions and you'll find that our ROMs section is now consistent with our earlier listing along-with the new MAME additions.

We'll soon have a MAME 0.140 to MAME 0.141 upgrade pack available as well so watch our news updates for that folks : ) Until then, you can download over 10,000 MAME ROMs at our MAME ROMs section. Or, prepare for our MAME upgrade pack by getting the MAME 0.139 set from our Complete ROM Sets section and then upgrading that to 0.140 using the update pack already available.

Update: The MAME Update pack is now available in our complete rom sets section. If you want to simply upgrade from 0.140 to 0.141 grab the MAME 0.140 to 0.141 Update Pack. All you have to do is decompress it in the same folder as your ROMs and you're set!

Final Fantasy VII Last Order
Posted by MasJ @ Wed, 05 Jan 2011 | Message Boards

Well, we seem to have recovered pretty well. Thanks to some good uploading by ilefys our Guides section is back online with everything we had before! (Woohoo!) So let's get back to regular updates. Today I've added Final Fantasy VII Last Order which is an OVA that forms the basis of Crisis Core - here's some more info:

Last Order: Final Fantasy VII is an original video animation from 2005 directed by Morio Asaka, written by Kazuhiko Inukai, and animated by Madhouse. It was released with the "Ultimate Edition" of Advent Pieces: Limited in Japan and was included in the collector's edition of Advent Children in North America. There is no English dub, and the OVA is subtitled.

The OVA is an anime rendition of two flashbacks that took place in the game. One details events from five years before Final Fantasy VII, revolving around the Nibelheim scenario that focused on Zack, Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, and Sephiroth. The other involves Zack and Cloud on the run from Shinra. The anime cuts back and forth between these two flashbacks, linked by the Turk commander Tseng's reflection on the Nibelheim events.

Last Order also forms the basis of the PSP game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, and serves as a tie-in with the mobile phone game Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, as several of the game's playable Turk characters appear as minor characters, with some getting spoken lines.

Definitely worth watching and we make it easy for you via our Video Game Movies Section. Enjoy!

Emuparadise making good progress!
Posted by MasJ @ Mon, 03 Jan 2011 | Message Boards

Many of you are aware of the server issues we faced last month. We lost a fair amount of data back then but I'm happy to report that we're back with a bang!

Almost all of our sections are back online. As of today most of the ROM/ISO Sections, Game related scans, Game related videos and Video game soundtracks are back online. Along with these sections, their megaupload mirrors are also back in action.

We'll be bringing you a steady stream of awesome updates in 2011. I'd like to thank all our users for the tremendous support that you've shown us in the past few days. Happy New Year folks, we'll make this year one to remember!
